Tata Communications has announced a strategic collaboration with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited to introduce eSIM services across India. This initiative, powered by Tata Communications’ GSMA accredited Move platform, will allow BSNL customers to activate mobile services digitally without the need for a physical SIM card. With the rollout, BSNL joins the growing list of telecom operators offering eSIM support, giving users a seamless way to manage connectivity.
What eSIM Services Mean for BSNL Users
BSNL’s eSIM services provide remote provisioning of 2G, 3G, and 4G connections through a secure QR code. This means customers with dual SIM smartphones can now use an eSIM alongside a traditional SIM, offering flexibility to switch networks or connect with international operators while traveling. For millions of Indian users, it represents a simpler and more efficient way to stay connected without worrying about swapping physical cards.
Powered by Tata Communications’ Move Platform
The backbone of this service is Tata Communications’ Move platform, delivered through Tata Communications Collaboration Services Private Ltd. This digital infrastructure ensures secure, scalable, and flexible management of eSIMs across the BSNL network. By using GSMA accredited subscription management systems, the platform guarantees robust security standards and smooth provisioning.
A Strategic Leap for BSNL
For BSNL, this launch is more than a technical upgrade. It marks a crucial step in its mission to modernize mobile connectivity and compete with private telecom players. “The launch of Pan India eSIM service represents a strategic advancement in our national telecom capabilities. With Tata Communications’ strong connectivity experience and forward looking innovation, we are enhancing the flexibility, security, and efficiency of mobile services for citizens across India,” said A Robert Ravi, Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL.
Recent Moves by BSNL
The state run telecom provider has been actively expanding its services. It launched 4G in Delhi earlier this year and has also signed an agreement with the Department of Posts to distribute SIM cards and recharge services through over 1.65 lakh post offices nationwide. Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated BSNL’s indigenous 4G network from Odisha, commissioning over 97,500 towers built entirely with Indian technology at a cost of Rs 37,000 crore.
With eSIM services now rolling out nationwide, BSNL is positioning itself to serve a new generation of mobile users who value convenience, flexibility, and digital-first solutions.
