Vivo has officially started teasing its next generation foldable smartphone, the Vivo X Fold 5, and early details suggest the company is aiming for a significant leap forward in both design and durability. The new foldable is confirmed to feature 8T LTPO panels on both the inner and outer displays, pushing peak brightness up to an impressive 4500 nits. It also meets IP5X and IPX9+ certifications, indicating a high level of resistance against dust and water, including the ability to survive under one meter of water while being folded and unfolded repeatedly.

The information was shared by Vivo’s Product Manager Han Boxiao through a teaser on Weibo, giving a closer look at the foldable’s inner display. Vivo is placing strong emphasis on the quality of its display technology this year. Both the outer and inner screens will support adaptive refresh rates, ultra high resolution, and high pixel density, all of which are backed by TÜV Rheinland’s latest global eye protection certification and Zeiss Master colour certification for enhanced viewing.

Another major revelation is the device’s ability to operate normally even in extreme cold conditions. According to Vivo, the X Fold 5 remains fully functional after being stored at minus 20 degrees Celsius for an extended period. This is a clear indicator that the device has been designed for endurance across varied environments, not just typical consumer use cases.

What also sets the Vivo X Fold 5 apart is its lightweight construction. The new model is expected to be slimmer and lighter than the X Fold 3, which weighed 219 grams. Leaks suggest the X Fold 5 could weigh around 209 grams, making it one of the lightest large format foldables on the market. Despite this slim form factor, it still aims to pack a powerful hardware profile.

As for expected specifications, the Vivo X Fold 5 is likely to feature an 8.03 inch inner display and a 6.53 inch outer display, both offering high refresh rates and ultra sharp visuals. On the back, the device is said to include a triple camera setup with a primary 50 megapixel sensor. It may also be equipped with a 6000mAh battery that supports 90W wired charging and 30W wireless charging. Powering all of this will likely be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

The Vivo X Fold 5 is shaping up to be a standout in the foldable category, combining rugged durability with premium display features and a lightweight build. With the teaser campaign now underway in China, the official launch is expected soon.
