Samsung’s journey with foldable technology seems poised to take another leap. While the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series have already changed the way smartphones are used, new leaks suggest the company is preparing to unveil its first tri fold smartphone. According to recent reports, files uncovered in the latest One UI 8 beta animations hint at a device believed to be the Galaxy G Fold. This innovative handset is expected to feature three foldable panels, connected by two hinges, forming a distinctive G shaped fold.
These new animations, identified by Android Authority and AssembleDebug, depict a smartphone much wider than the Galaxy Z Fold 7. One of the images suggests that the outer middle panel may act as the cover screen, housing a centre aligned selfie camera through a hole punch cutout. Another outer panel reportedly includes a vertically aligned triple camera module, adding to its versatile hardware design. While the role of the third outer panel is not entirely clear yet, it is evident from the visuals that this is a significantly evolved concept compared to current foldables.
The internal display, once fully opened, is expected to offer a massive viewing experience, potentially ideal for multitasking, gaming, and media consumption. Interestingly, another camera seems to be located on the right side of the inner display, which might serve additional functionality such as video calls or wide angle selfies. The animation files also mention a possible internal codename for the device, “Multifold 7,” though this is unlikely to be its final retail name.
What sets this tri fold design apart is its G shaped folding pattern. Unlike Huawei’s tri fold Mate XT which follows an S shaped design, Samsung appears to have opted for an inward folding mechanism that keeps the screen more protected. This also allows the outer panel with the camera setup to remain exposed, offering instant access for photography without unfolding the device completely.
The speculation has intensified because of the timing. Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event is scheduled for July 9, where the company is already expected to announce the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and the Galaxy Watch 8 lineup. If the tri fold device is teased or unveiled, it would mark a significant milestone for the brand in the competitive foldable market. There are rumors that the device may be named the Galaxy G Fold, but the final branding is yet to be confirmed.
While no official launch timeline or pricing has been disclosed, there are whispers that the tri fold phone may be introduced in select markets later this year. Industry insiders suggest that it could come with high end specifications, possibly including a silicon carbon battery and S Pen support, which would elevate its appeal to premium users and early adopters.
Samsung has remained tight lipped on these developments, as is typical before major hardware reveals. However, if these leaks are accurate, the company could soon redefine the foldable category again, just as it did when it first introduced the original Galaxy Fold. The tri fold concept has long been a futuristic vision for smartphones, and Samsung may finally be ready to bring it to life.
