Samsung’s Next Big Leap into Extended Reality

Samsung is preparing to make waves in the extended reality market with its much awaited Project Moohan XR headset. Originally rumored to debut in late September, the device is now expected to officially launch on October 22, with pre registrations beginning on October 15. While the first wave of availability will be limited to South Korea, Samsung plans to gradually roll it out to more global markets.
This headset is Samsung’s first major push into the XR space and signals the company’s ambition to compete with established players in virtual and mixed reality.
A Collaboration with Google and Qualcomm
Project Moohan has been developed in partnership with Google and Qualcomm, blending Samsung’s hardware expertise with Google’s Android XR platform and Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 processor. This collaboration ensures not only high end performance but also access to a broader ecosystem of XR applications.
Pricing and Availability

Early reports suggest that the headset could be priced between KRW 2,500,000 and KRW 4,000,000, which translates to roughly 1,785 to 2,855 dollars. Samsung is said to be aiming to ship around 100,000 units of Project Moohan initially, although this number could change depending on consumer demand.
What This Means for the XR Market
Samsung’s entry into the XR headset category could reshape the competitive landscape. With Apple and Meta already racing ahead with their devices, Project Moohan has the potential to attract a strong base of early adopters thanks to Samsung’s brand strength and its integration with the Android ecosystem.
If successful, this launch could establish Samsung as a serious player in immersive technologies and pave the way for more advanced models in the coming years.
