Samsung may be on the brink of redefining the foldable phone category once again. After leading the market with its Galaxy Fold and Flip series, the company is now preparing to enter an entirely new foldable segment with its first tri-fold device. The upcoming phone, which is likely to be called the Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold, has made headlines after a hidden code in the beta version of One UI 8 revealed key specifications, including its powerful chipset.

A new report indicates that Samsung’s internal One UI 8 beta build has code references pointing to a device codenamed ‘q7mq’, likely referring to the Galaxy Z Trifold. Even more intriguing is the mention of ‘sm8750’ in the same string, which appears to confirm the inclusion of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. This is the same high-performance chipset found in Samsung’s premium Galaxy S25 series and the recently launched Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Samsung’s tri-fold is expected to feature a G-type design, allowing the display to fold inward at two separate points. When fully unfolded, the screen could measure close to 9.96 inches, offering an almost tablet-sized viewing experience that fits right in your pocket. When folded, the phone may shrink down to a more manageable 6.54 inches. This combination could give users a perfect balance between portability and productivity.

There are also whispers that the phone will come equipped with a triple rear camera setup, potentially mirroring the camera system found on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Users can expect high-quality photography and video capabilities, consistent with Samsung’s recent premium models.

The Z Trifold could also bring software enhancements, as it is likely to ship with Android 16 layered with Samsung’s custom One UI 8. Additionally, the device might feature a silicon-carbon battery, possibly improving battery life and charging efficiency compared to standard lithium-ion batteries.

However, availability may be limited. Reports suggest that Samsung could manufacture only around 3,00,000 units of the Z Trifold, targeting select markets like South Korea and China initially. This could make it one of the most exclusive smartphones in Samsung’s lineup, at least during its first release phase.

TM Roh, the head of Samsung’s mobile division, recently confirmed the company’s plans to release a tri-fold smartphone before the end of the year. With October being touted as the likely launch month, excitement is already building in the tech community. If all the pieces come together as expected, the Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold could be one of the most ambitious and innovative smartphones of the year.
