Apple is quietly preparing one of its biggest upgrades in years for its voice assistant Siri. According to reports, the company is testing a new internal application called Veritas, a ChatGPT style tool that allows Apple engineers to explore next generation AI features before they are ready for the public. The goal is to transform Siri from a basic voice tool into an intelligent assistant capable of handling complex conversations and tasks with ease.

Veritas as Apple’s Testing Ground

Veritas, which means “truth” in Latin, has been designed as a private testing platform where Apple employees can trial features such as searching through personal data, pulling up emails, managing playlists or even editing photos with a simple voice request. Unlike today’s Siri, the app supports longer conversations, remembers past interactions and offers the kind of back and forth experience users have come to expect from modern AI chatbots.

The system is powered by Linwood, Apple’s new foundation that blends its own large language models with select third party AI technologies. While Veritas is not meant for public release, it represents the backbone of what Siri will eventually become.

Overcoming Delays and Challenges

The revamped Siri was originally set for an earlier release but faced repeated delays after internal tests showed features failing nearly a third of the time. Apple is now targeting an early 2026 rollout, with March being the earliest possible launch window.

This update arrives at a time when Google and Samsung are pushing aggressively into AI, and Apple’s ability to deliver a reliable assistant could play a critical role in how consumers choose their next smartphone. Despite this, Apple avoided highlighting its AI work during the launch of the iPhone 17, preferring to refine the technology before making promises.

Partnerships and Internal Shake Ups

Apple has also been exploring external collaborations, holding discussions with OpenAI, Anthropic and more recently Google about using a customised version of its Gemini AI platform. At the same time, Apple’s AI division has gone through major restructuring, with the departure of senior leaders including former Siri chief Robby Walker. His team, now focused on AI based search, remains central to the upcoming Siri overhaul.

Expanding AI Beyond Siri

The company’s vision goes beyond the iPhone. Reports suggest Apple is working on AI powered upgrades for HomePod speakers, Apple TV and even search services, all tied to its larger push for intelligence across devices. CEO Tim Cook has called artificial intelligence the most significant transformation in decades and insists Apple must lead in this space.

The Road Ahead

While Veritas will never be seen by the public, its existence highlights Apple’s intent to deliver a voice assistant that finally feels as capable as the competition. If successful, the upgraded Siri could change how millions of people interact with their iPhones, Macs and other Apple devices, turning them into smarter, more personal companions.
