Samsung is about to make foldable history again, and this time it is with a device that folds not once but twice. The company’s first-ever tri-fold smartphone is reportedly inching closer to launch and could arrive by October 2025. While earlier reports hinted at a new Galaxy G Fold name, fresh leaks suggest the device may instead join the popular Galaxy Z series with the name Galaxy Z TriFold.
The triple-screen device is expected to feature a massive 9.96-inch display when fully unfolded, making it Samsung’s largest foldable screen yet. When closed, it will reportedly sport a more compact 6.54-inch cover display, providing flexibility for both productivity and portability. Samsung’s tri-fold design is said to adopt a G-style layout with inward-folding hinges similar to what we saw in Tecno’s recent concept device.
Tipster Max Jambor claims that Samsung will market this new foldable under its existing Galaxy Z branding, which currently includes the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip lines. If accurate, this move signals Samsung’s intent to evolve the Z series into a broader foldable ecosystem rather than create an entirely new product line for its multi-folding phones.
Another leak from tipster Ice Universe suggests that Samsung’s tri-fold phone could launch in October, shortly after Huawei unveils its next-generation Mate XT Ultimate Design model in September. This head-to-head timing might reignite the competitive race in foldable innovation, especially with Huawei currently holding the title for the only commercially available tri-fold smartphone.
Internally, the tri-fold is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and supported by a high-capacity silicon-carbon battery. This battery tech is seen as a significant step forward, offering greater energy density and better heat management. The device is also said to support 8K video recording at 30 frames per second and will include a triple camera setup.
Samsung Mobile President TM Roh had previously confirmed that a tri-folding smartphone was on the company’s roadmap for 2025. Codenamed Q7M, the device with model number SM-F968 is reportedly entering the mass production phase and could see a limited release in select markets first before expanding globally.
Samsung originally teased its multi-folding phone concept back in January during the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event. While it did not launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Z Flip 7, the upcoming October window aligns with the timeline of Samsung’s second annual Unpacked event.
If Samsung pulls this off successfully, it will be the company’s most advanced foldable yet, combining design ambition with flagship-grade internals. A tri-fold phone could dramatically reshape how we use smartphones, offering laptop-sized screens in a device that still fits in your pocket.
As the foldable market becomes more competitive, Samsung’s upcoming launch could set a new benchmark and potentially establish tri-folds as the next major frontier in mobile innovation.
