A Refined and Functional Redesign

Nothing has officially announced the arrival of Nothing OS 4.0, the latest version of its Android skin built on Android 16. The company says the update focuses on simplicity, usability, and speed, while still keeping its signature design identity intact. The most noticeable change is a reimagined lock screen and a cleaner, more functional interface that feels familiar yet polished.

The Quick Settings panel has been redesigned to reduce clutter, with larger and more accessible tiles for essential functions. Brightness controls are now more responsive, making adjustments faster and smoother.

Dark Mode Gets Smarter

Nothing OS 4.0 brings an enhanced dark mode that offers deeper contrast and a sleeker aesthetic across apps and menus. The Always-on Display also gets new customization options, allowing users to tailor the look of their phone even when the screen is off.

Smarter Multitasking and App Performance

One of the biggest upgrades is support for two floating app icons, which make multitasking between frequently used apps faster. App optimization has also been improved, with apps launching more smoothly and responding quicker than before. The update also introduces a revamped camera app with a simplified interface and a smarter gallery app featuring new presets, controls, and a more intuitive layout.

Nothing OS 4.0 also adds a brand-new AI usage dashboard that helps users track how and where AI tools are being used within the system.

Rollout and Availability

The open beta of Nothing OS 4.0 will be rolling out soon, with the Nothing Phone (3) being the first to receive it. Older Nothing and CMF devices will follow, though the original Phone (1) will not be updated as it has reached the end of its support cycle.

This update reaffirms Nothing’s focus on creating a user experience that balances design flair with everyday functionality, giving users a system that feels fluid and modern without unnecessary complexity.
