Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu has confirmed that Arattai, the company’s homegrown WhatsApp rival, will soon implement system wide end to end encryption for all users. The feature is undergoing final testing and will be rolled out as a mandatory upgrade.

Earlier this month, Vembu had invited user feedback on whether encryption should be optional or applied across the entire platform. After reviewing responses and conducting technical evaluations, the team decided that system wide encryption is the only responsible approach to protect user privacy at scale.

In an update shared on X, Vembu said that one on one chats will receive encrypted protection first, followed by group conversations. More than six thousand employees are currently testing the redesigned system. Issues identified have been resolved and a fresh testing round is underway before public deployment.

Vembu described the update as a drastic shift that requires a forced upgrade for all users. The latest version of the Arattai app already contains the encryption framework but it will remain inactive until the final testing cycle is complete. Users can expect a faster, more streamlined app along with the enhanced security layer.

With this move, Arattai becomes one of the few Indian messaging platforms to adopt mandatory end to end encryption across the entire system, strengthening user privacy and security.
