A new way to recover your account

Google’s Recovery Contacts feature lets users designate trusted individuals who can verify their identity in case they get locked out. The process begins by selecting a reliable contact from your circle — such as a close friend or family member and sending them an invitation through your Google Account settings. Once the contact accepts, they become authorized to help confirm your identity if you ever lose access.

If your account is compromised, forgotten, or locked for security reasons, the designated contact can assist in verifying your credentials. After confirmation, you can reset your password and recover your account seamlessly. While Google has not shared the exact verification process, it has assured users that the method will be “simple, secure, and effective.”

Mobile number sign-in adds convenience

Alongside Recovery Contacts, Google is rolling out another major update: the ability to sign in using your mobile number. This new feature is especially helpful for Android users switching to a new device. Instead of typing your password, you can log in using the lock-screen passcode from your previous phone, eliminating the need to remember or reset passwords.

This approach not only enhances convenience but also strengthens security by tying account access to verified devices and phone numbers.

Security with simplicity

The Recovery Contacts and Sign-in with Mobile Number features are being rolled out gradually across the globe. These updates come as part of Google’s ongoing efforts to reduce account recovery friction while maintaining robust protection against unauthorized access.

By combining human verification with advanced security infrastructure, Google aims to make the recovery process more trustworthy and stress-free. Users are encouraged to update their Google and Gmail apps to ensure they receive these new features as they become available.

With account safety becoming a top priority in the digital age, Google’s latest innovations strike the right balance between security and accessibility.
