YouTube is rolling out a new AI powered feature that could change how users discover content on its platform. Called the Search Results Carousel, this tool is designed to help users find what they are looking for faster by presenting a curated lineup of videos along with AI generated summaries. It is currently being tested with YouTube Premium subscribers in the United States and is accessible only through the YouTube mobile app on Android and iOS devices.

The new feature appears only when users search for specific categories like shopping, travel, or local recommendations. Instead of the usual list of videos, users are greeted with a visual carousel. At the top of the results page, there is a larger featured video, followed by a scrollable row of suggested video thumbnails. What sets this apart is that each search now includes a brief text summary generated by artificial intelligence, offering a quick understanding of the content before users hit play.

This update reflects YouTube’s increasing focus on leveraging AI to enhance user experience. The goal is to make video exploration more intuitive by showing not just thumbnails but a more informative snapshot that guides decision making. Whether it is a product review or a destination guide, users get a sense of the video content through the summary, saving time and potentially making more informed choices.

The carousel was first introduced in a limited test phase back in April. With the current expansion, more Premium users in the US will now be able to explore the feature until the trial period ends on July 30. It remains available only for English language videos for now. If the feedback is positive, YouTube may consider expanding the feature globally and to all users in the future.

Alongside the carousel rollout, YouTube is also expanding another AI feature originally exclusive to Premium subscribers. Its conversational AI tool, powered by Gemini, is now being made available to some non Premium users as well. Identified by a sparkle icon below the video player, this chatbot lets viewers ask questions about the video or request recommendations. It adds an interactive layer to video consumption and helps users get more out of the content without leaving the app. This feature is currently restricted to Android users.

These additions align with YouTube’s broader strategy of integrating AI into core functionalities. Rather than being passive viewers, users are now part of an AI assisted experience that prioritizes ease, speed, and smarter navigation.

With features like the AI Search Carousel and conversational tools becoming more common, YouTube is pushing the boundaries of what a streaming platform can offer. As AI continues to shape the digital landscape, these innovations are a glimpse into how video platforms might soon become more personalized, efficient, and user friendly.
