Hyderabad, November 10 — The Telangana government announced the opening of Sonatype’s new Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad’s HiTech City, reinforcing India’s role as a global hub for AI and cybersecurity innovation.

The launch marks a major expansion for Sonatype, a US-based open-source cybersecurity company that specialises in AI-driven software supply chain protection. The Hyderabad GCC is the firm’s largest R&D hub worldwide and will drive advancements in AI/ML-based software security, open-source intelligence, and cloud-native application protection.

The new centre was inaugurated by Sanjay Kumar, Special Chief Secretary for IT and Industries, alongside Sai Krishna, IT advisor to Telangana’s Industries Minister, and Sonatype’s Chief Product Development Officer Abhishek Chauhan.

“Hyderabad has quickly become one of the fastest-growing hubs for Global Capability Centres, where leading companies are managing their most critical innovation-driven work,” said Sanjay Kumar. “By next year, Hyderabad will reach its first milestone of 500 GCCs, creating thousands of high-value technology jobs.”

Sonatype currently employs 50 professionals in Hyderabad and plans to expand to over 200 deep-tech engineers, AI researchers, and product specialists within the next year.

A Hub for AI-Powered Security and Development
At the inauguration, Sonatype reiterated its commitment to strengthening software supply chain security through next-gen AI models. The company said its Hyderabad GCC will focus on accelerating:

  • AI/ML-based threat detection and software integrity solutions

  • Cloud-native application development and resilience frameworks

  • Open-source vulnerability analysis and supply chain risk management

“India is leading a global technology transformation — not only as a hub for engineering excellence, but as a model for how nations can embrace AI responsibly and securely,” said Bhagwat Swaroop, CEO of Sonatype. “Hyderabad has become a magnet for the world’s most innovative companies.”

Telangana’s Expanding GCC Ecosystem
The Telangana government has been aggressively promoting its Global Capability Centre initiative, encouraging international enterprises to set up research, design, and AI innovation centres in the state. With the addition of Sonatype, Hyderabad’s GCC ecosystem now spans leading sectors such as cybersecurity, cloud computing, and digital transformation.

The Sonatype GCC strengthens India’s growing status as a strategic AI innovation hub, where multinational firms can collaborate with local engineering talent to co-develop secure, scalable, and responsible AI technologies.
