Samsung is quietly working on one of its boldest AI moves yet. Ahead of the Galaxy S26 launch expected in early 2026, reports suggest that the company is in active talks with both OpenAI and Perplexity to offer new artificial intelligence tools on its flagship smartphones. These would be offered alongside Google's Gemini, which currently powers many of Samsung's AI features through Galaxy AI.
The company has not confirmed any names officially, but a senior Samsung executive told Bloomberg that Samsung is in conversations with several AI vendors and wants to give users more choices. He also mentioned that Samsung is open to working with any AI agent available, which is a significant signal that the tech giant is looking beyond Google’s ecosystem.
This aligns with earlier leaks that suggested Samsung might be planning to replace Gemini on some models with Perplexity’s assistant. Now, it appears that the strategy is not about replacing one AI but giving consumers access to multiple AI tools in a single phone. If successful, the Galaxy S26 series could become the first mainstream smartphone lineup to support AI services from different companies, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Perplexity, side by side.
Motorola recently announced a similar approach with its Moto AI suite, which is powered by Microsoft, Perplexity, and Google. Samsung’s move would bring even more powerful options to premium Android users, especially as AI becomes the most defining feature in the smartphone race.
This new AI strategy is expected to launch alongside Samsung’s next-gen hardware. While there is still no confirmation on whether the Galaxy S26 phones will use the Exynos 2600 chip or the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor, the focus clearly lies in creating a more intelligent and adaptable smartphone experience.
The Galaxy S26 will also enter a fiercely competitive landscape, with Apple rumored to debut its first foldable iPhone in 2026. But Samsung may have an edge, as it could become the first brand to let users switch between AI tools the same way they choose between apps or cameras. It is also expected that Samsung Display will continue to supply foldable screens for both its own devices and possibly Apple’s upcoming models.
If Samsung delivers on this multi-AI experience, it may change how smartphones use intelligence forever.
