Pika Labs is taking a big leap in AI-powered creativity with the launch of its new social video-generation app for iOS, paired with a next-gen AI model that can create videos with audio and incredibly lifelike facial expressions. The company, based in Palo Alto, has been quietly onboarding select users over the past month, and now the wider world is getting its first look at what could become one of the most exciting tools in the AI video space.

The app, called Pika Social AI Video, gives users the ability to capture a selfie and transform it into a short AI-generated video within seconds. From there, the experience becomes highly interactive, with tools to tweak and customise every aspect of the video. Users can change backgrounds, add new elements, and even reimagine their selfie entirely using text prompts. Once the video is ready, it can be shared instantly on the app’s built-in social feed, allowing for creativity to spread within the community.

Pika Labs has added another unique twist to the platform  the ability to take inspiration from another user’s shared video and build upon it. This means creators can remix and evolve each other’s ideas, turning the app into a collaborative space for experimental AI art.

Alongside the app launch, the company announced a revolutionary video-generation model that can natively generate audio, allowing for richer and more immersive content. This model can capture hyper-real facial expressions in near real-time and produce high-definition videos of any style and length in as little as six seconds. Whether it’s a cinematic short clip or a playful animated selfie, the possibilities are immense.

In a recent post on X, Pika Labs showcased the model’s capabilities, highlighting how it can merge voice, movement, and expression into a seamless and lifelike video experience. While the company has not confirmed whether this feature will be free or part of a premium subscription, its potential has already generated significant buzz among early testers.

Currently, Pika Social AI Video is only available to iOS users with an invitation code, but the waitlist is open for anyone eager to join. An Android version is already in the works and is expected to roll out soon, expanding the platform’s reach even further.

With this launch, Pika Labs is positioning itself as a strong competitor in the AI creative space, joining the ranks of companies like Runway and Google’s Veo. Its combination of social sharing, real-time creativity, and audio-enhanced video generation could make it one of the go-to platforms for AI-driven storytelling in the near future.
