Perplexity has unveiled a major new feature for its growing user base in India. The company announced that it is rolling out stock price alerts for shares listed on the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange. The feature, part of the Perplexity Finance suite, gives users the ability to set target prices or percentage movements for any stock and receive real time alerts when those conditions are met. This move is designed to make the AI powered platform not just a search companion but also a financial tracking tool for retail and professional investors.
When a user sets a price alert, Perplexity not only notifies them when the stock hits the target but also provides an explanation behind the price movement. This includes market factors, news updates, and even social media sentiment if the user chooses to add such instructions. For now, the feature is available only to Pro and Max subscribers, but the company confirmed that free tier users will gain access in the future.
The alerts can be set on both desktop and mobile web versions of the platform. Once a stock is searched, a new Price Alert button appears on the results page. Users can choose either a specific target in rupees or a percentage change threshold. Perplexity then continuously monitors the stock and sends an alert whenever the conditions are close to being met. Live movements can also be tracked on the dedicated Tasks page, ensuring that users remain updated even while navigating other parts of the platform.
Jeff Grimes, Head of Live Events at Perplexity, highlighted that this feature was built specifically with Indian users in mind, given the scale of participation in local equity markets. CEO Aravind Srinivas added that the launch comes at a time when the platform has reached a massive new milestone of 300 million user queries every week. Just nine months ago, the platform was handling around 100 million queries per week, so this marks a three times growth in under a year.
Perplexity has already made headlines in recent months for ambitious experiments and product rollouts, but this addition shows a focus on practical utility. By integrating price alerts, the platform is positioning itself as more than a search engine. It is becoming a versatile productivity hub where users can get both answers and actionable tools.
For Indian investors, this feature could simplify how they track their portfolios without relying on multiple apps or services. With the promise of further expansion to the free tier, it is clear that Perplexity wants to scale its finance capabilities to a much broader audience.
