Google has added a major upgrade to its Gemini AI with the introduction of the Scheduled Actions feature. This new ability allows users to set recurring or timed instructions that the AI will carry out automatically, making it function more like a true digital assistant than ever before.
First revealed during the Google I O event, Scheduled Actions are now available for a limited number of users on Android and iOS who are subscribed to Google’s AI Premium plan. The feature essentially turns Gemini into a dependable scheduler that works across various Google services. You can set it up to send reminders, generate content, pull calendar updates, or summarize emails at specific times, all without needing to ask again.
Imagine receiving five blog ideas every Sunday morning without lifting a finger. Or a calendar and inbox briefing at exactly 8 each morning. Maybe even a quick reminder about your Tuesday dentist appointment. Gemini will handle all of this automatically once you set it up inside the Scheduled Actions section of the app’s settings.
This functionality is similar to OpenAI’s Tasks tool in ChatGPT, but with one big difference. Gemini is tightly integrated within the Google ecosystem. That means it can talk to Gmail, Google Calendar, Docs, and other Google services in one smooth flow. It reduces friction, removes repetition, and centralises your productivity in a single smart space.
Until now, Gemini’s assistance was largely reactive. It could answer your queries and help with tasks when asked. Scheduled Actions brings a shift toward proactive help. The AI now understands your preferences and follows instructions without needing to be reminded. This means fewer repetitive commands and more time saved.
At the moment, access is restricted to AI Premium users and select Google Workspace business or education accounts. For users on the free or standard tier, the feature is not available yet. But given Google’s track record, wider availability in the future seems likely. Many advanced features that first launched in limited forms like Smart Compose and Assistant routines eventually became mainstream and free to use.
Gemini’s new upgrade is a step closer to what people expect from AI in their daily lives. It’s not just about having information on demand anymore, but about receiving the right help at the right time without having to ask. Whether you are a busy professional, a student managing deadlines, or someone trying to organize everyday tasks, this feature promises to bring real utility.
