Google has now rolled out its AI Mode in Search to all users across India. What was earlier a limited feature accessible only through Search Labs has now become available to everyone using Google Search, whether on desktop or the mobile app. This move marks a major step in Google’s strategy to make AI an integral part of its search ecosystem for Indian users.

The AI Mode was first introduced in the United States earlier this year and was later made available to Search Labs users in India. It allows users to ask more complex queries and receive AI generated responses that are more detailed and informative than regular search results. Now, with its full rollout, the feature is live for all users in India without the need for any sign up or waiting list.

Users can access AI Mode through both the Google app on Android and iOS devices as well as on the desktop version of Google Search. A new icon featuring a magnifying glass with a sparkle is visible in the app and the widget, offering direct access to this new search interface. On the desktop, AI Mode can be launched from a dedicated button that appears underneath the search bar, aligned with the standard filters such as All, Images, and News.

One of the key features of AI Mode is that it supports not only text based input but also voice and image queries. This functionality is made possible through its integration with Google Lens, allowing users to snap a photo and immediately run an AI powered search based on the image. For example, if a user captures a picture of a plant or a building, they can now ask follow up questions directly through the AI interface to learn more about what they are seeing.

While the rollout does not introduce brand new features beyond what was already offered to Search Labs users, it does ensure full functionality to a wider audience. Users can still expect comprehensive answers with source links, breakdowns of complex questions, and an interface that encourages curiosity and deeper research. All of this is made more intuitive through a visually simplified user experience designed around helping people discover more efficiently.

Google has confirmed that the AI Mode does not work in incognito mode or when users are logged out of their Google accounts. The feature requires users to remain signed in for personalized responses and access to interactive tools. This requirement ensures that the AI assistant can reference previous searches, contextual preferences, and deliver smarter suggestions based on the user’s search habits.

India is one of Google’s largest markets, and this rollout aligns with its broader efforts to bring advanced AI tools to more people. The company has received strong positive feedback from early testers in India and is now confident in expanding the tool nationwide. With increasing adoption of voice and image search, especially in regional languages, Google’s AI Mode could become a major driver of how people use search going forward.
