Claude, the AI chatbot developed by Anthropic, has taken a major leap forward in functionality by now allowing users to build, host, and share their own interactive AI powered applications. This new feature builds on the previously introduced Artifacts tool from June 2024, which allowed collaborative coding within a sandbox style window. Now, users can not only write code with Claude but also execute it directly on the platform, transforming ideas into live, interactive apps that others can use and experience.

The process is designed to be accessible. Users can create apps simply by describing what they want in natural language. Claude then helps generate the code, and the entire application runs within Anthropic’s hosted environment. Once the app is ready, it can be shared with other users, allowing broader engagement with custom built AI tools. When others interact with these shared apps, API usage is not billed to the creator. Instead, it counts against the subscription of the user running the app, making this a cost effective way to distribute functional AI tools without managing API keys or backend infrastructure.

This feature is currently limited to text based completions via Claude’s API. While it does not yet support external API calls or permanent data storage, it does allow for interactive app experiences including file processing and basic user interface customization using React. The apps are not persistent, meaning data will not be saved once the session ends, but they provide a powerful playground for prototyping and showcasing ideas.

Anthropic has emphasized that this update turns Claude into more than just a coding companion. It enables full cycle development and execution of lightweight applications directly within the chat experience. The ability to host and share such tools is especially useful for developers, educators, researchers, and product teams who want to quickly test ideas or create tools for internal use.

Although still in beta, this feature signals Anthropic’s intention to make Claude more than a text based assistant. By integrating real time development and interactive sharing capabilities, Claude is now evolving into a full AI development environment that can be used for a wide range of tasks. This shift puts Anthropic in closer competition with platforms like Google’s Gemini, which already supports collaborative document editing, but Claude’s app building capability adds a unique layer of functionality to the AI tool space.

As users explore these new tools, the potential for building AI driven utilities, calculators, simulations, and educational apps within minutes could change how people interact with artificial intelligence. While limitations exist, the foundation for a more interactive and customizable AI experience has now been firmly established.
