AI as the Next Big Technological Revolution

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has underlined that AI is not just another innovation but the most significant shift in recent decades comparable to the arrival of the Internet. According to him AI is already impacting nearly every aspect of human activity from the way people work to how they consume and interact with the world. He stressed that just as the Internet transformed society AI will play an equally disruptive role in shaping the future.

India’s Vision for Viksit Bharat

Vaishnaw noted that India is now in a unique position where it can aspire to become a fully developed nation. Unlike the early decades after independence when growth was limited today’s progress is inclusive robust and driven by technology. He highlighted that mastering critical technologies is essential for any country to achieve developed nation status.

The Technologies That Will Shape the Future

The minister identified key areas where India must build strength to remain at the global frontier. These include telecom technology semiconductors electric vehicles biotech advanced engines quantum computing and rare earth technologies. He said India must master these fields create a strong pipeline of skilled talent and build confidence in its ability to innovate.

Building the Ecosystem Through Research and Talent

Vaishnaw explained that India’s strategy rests on two key pillars. The first is investment in research and development and the second is building a deep and sustainable talent pipeline. He cited the example of the semiconductor mission launched in 2022 which laid out a 20 year roadmap for developing a strong domestic ecosystem. As part of this initiative 278 institutions universities and colleges are already training students with advanced semiconductor design tools. Recently 20 student designed chips were manufactured at the Semi Conductor Laboratory in Mohali with another 15 currently under production.

A Future Driven by AI and Innovation

The minister concluded by stating that India’s focus on AI semiconductors and other frontier technologies will be central to the country’s ambition of becoming a global technology leader. By fostering innovation and empowering talent India aims to shape the future rather than just adapt to it.
