Apple is preparing to launch its next generation iPhone 17 later this year, and reports suggest it will feature a slightly larger and more advanced display than its predecessor. Leaked information from a trusted Chinese tipster has now aligned with previous claims, indicating that the base iPhone 17 model will feature a 6.3 inch OLED screen. This marks a notable jump from the 6.1 inch display seen on the iPhone 16, making the upcoming handset more in line with the size of the iPhone 16 Pro.

The information first surfaced through Digital Chat Station on Weibo and has since been reinforced by other reports and retail leaks. One such accidental reveal came from a listing on Amazon India for a screen protector, which included compatibility for both the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. Though the listing was quickly updated to remove the reference, it provided an early glimpse into the shared screen dimensions for Apple’s next lineup.

Perhaps more exciting is the expected upgrade in refresh rate. The iPhone 17 could finally bring 120Hz displays to the standard non Pro models, a feature Apple has so far reserved for its Pro series. This would be made possible through the adoption of LTPO OLED panels, allowing for smoother scrolling, better gaming experiences, and more fluid animations across the user interface.

While both the iPhone 17 and the rumoured iPhone 17 Air are expected to get the 120Hz upgrade, some premium display features such as always on display and extreme refresh rate adaptability will likely remain exclusive to the Pro variants. These features rely on a variable refresh rate that can scale from 1Hz to 120Hz depending on activity, helping balance performance and battery life.

Apple also appears to be expanding its use of advanced display technology. According to earlier reports, the entire iPhone 17 lineup is expected to use Samsung’s latest M14 OLED panels. Previously limited to the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, this shift will mark the first time Apple is bringing this display innovation to its full product range. It is also a strategic move that may raise the overall visual experience for all users, regardless of which iPhone 17 model they choose.

Beyond the display upgrades, the iPhone 17 is also expected to feature new color options and a refreshed design. The device may continue the trend of offering smaller bezels and enhanced screen real estate without drastically changing the overall footprint. These enhancements suggest that Apple is focusing on a visual upgrade that will be immediately noticeable even for non Pro users.

With these developments, Apple seems ready to blur the gap between its base and Pro models, offering more value and performance to everyday consumers. If the leaks hold true, the iPhone 17 may become one of the most well rounded base iPhones released in recent years.
