When you're busy with work or in a meeting, a voice note on WhatsApp can be disruptive. To address this, WhatsApp is testing a new feature that converts voice messages into text. This allows users to read the content without listening. Currently available to select beta users, this feature supports English, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), and Russian, with plans for more languages. Users can enable transcription by downloading a language data package, ensuring privacy as the transcription occurs locally on the device.
Benefits and Availability
- Accessibility: Great for users with hearing impairments.
- Convenience: Allows users to quickly read long voice messages.
- Privacy: Transcriptions are generated on the device, keeping data secure.
Activating this feature requires downloading around 150MB of data. Users will see a notification indicating that the feature is active. Currently in testing, the feature will soon be available to more users, enhancing convenience and accessibility in communication.
